Basic Home Care Tips for Maintaining Optimal Oral Health


A good home oral hygiene routine is a must so that your teeth and gums stay healthy.

Self-care is something you shouldn't take lightly, and here are some easy tips to help maintain a beautiful healthy smile:


Brush your teeth twice a day for 2 minutes.

Always use a clean, soft-bristled toothbrush and if you are using a manual one, make sure you hold it at the right angle and brush gently using the Bass Sulcular technique. If you prefer an electric toothbrush, place toothbrush on the tooth for 2-3 seconds and let the brush do all the work then move on to the next tooth. A manual and an electric toothbrush are both effective ways of brushing.


Clean your Tongue

The tongue is an organ inside the mouth that tends to be missed when brushing. Bacteria can easily be accumulated over time. It's a good idea to brush your tongue along with your teeth and gums. Tongue brushing removes the bacteria and contributes to a fresher mouth.


Flossing

Brushing alone isn't enough for a truly clean mouth. Food and bacteria tend to be stuck in-between teeth and often missed. When done properly, flossing helps to remove food and bacteria from the areas that brushing cannot access. Regular flossing also disrupts the bacteria from turning into plaque an calculus. Once in the evening is the best time to floss.
