Oral hygiene for Children
First, let’s take a look at what your child’s oral hygiene habits should look like. They should be almost identical to those you are practising yourself.
1. Have a countdown
It's recommended for a child to brush his/her teeth for 2 minutes long.
Introduce an hourglass, a digital timer, and stopwatch
Or download a free mobile app for the gaming experience
2. Make brushing entertaining
Many kids don’t like cleaning their teeth because they get bored.
Playing 2 minutes of their favorite song is a simple way to keep them engaged and entertained.
3. Brush with your child
Most kids like to imitate their parents, so show them how important oral hygiene is by doing it together!
If you are enthusiastic about brushing and flossing, your child will notice and want to copy you.
When you clean your teeth together, you can also show your child the proper technique.
4. Let Them Pick Their Toothbrush and Toothpaste
Kids like making their own decisions, let them choose their brush based on colour or design
Toothpaste come in many different flavors, find one that the child likes and stick with that one
5. Compliment and Encourage Their Brushing
Praise your child when they are doing a great job brushing their teeth
Try to focus on the good parts of the experience with your child
Positive reinforcements!
